Do you remember the “Civic Budgets 2026” project led by our colleagues at HALO Foundation? The project has demonstrated something important: when people have the opportunity to choose, they choose to participate. A total of 8,124 people took part in the voting process, casting their votes for civic initiatives they would like to see implemented in their communities. The voting closed on 31 July. Following the processing of the votes and a verification of their eligibility, the initiatives selected for funding were identified.
On 10 August, the 15 winning civic initiatives were officially announced: 10 initiatives in Haskovo Municipality
5 initiatives in Stambolovo Municipality
The selected ideas will be brought to life this autumn with the active involvement of local communities, volunteers, and the people who believed in them.
These are more than just projects. They are 15 ideas chosen by people, for people — reflecting local priorities and demonstrating the power of civic participation.
The results are an encouraging example of how participatory approaches can give citizens a meaningful role in shaping the places where they live.
