The European Week of Sport turned Karlovo into a place for sport, new encounters and new ideas

Sport knows no borders – it brings together children and young people, coaches and friends from different countries and creates opportunities for new encounters and partnerships. In this spirit, the Youth Centre – Karlovo is celebrating the European Week of Sport with a series of sporting activities and an international exchange with football coaches from Cyprus.

From 24 to 30 September 2026, Karlovo is hosting two coaches from Elpida Astromeritis Football Club, Cyprus – Charalambos Charalambous and Charalambos Hadjicharalambous. Their visit is part of a partnership project under the Erasmus+ programme, aimed at exchanging experience and good practices between sports professionals from Bulgaria and Cyprus.

On 25 September, the sporting activities kicked off at St. St. Cyril and Methodius Primary School in Karlovo, where the Cypriot coaches joined the students in a variety of sports games.

Smiles, movement, team spirit and plenty of positive energy turned the first meeting into a true celebration of sport. For the children, it was not only an opportunity to be active, but also a chance to meet coaches from another European country.

The Cypriot guests then visited the training sessions of the children from the Karlovo Football Academy  and the youth team of Levski Karlovo FC, where they had the opportunity to observe the work of the local coaches and the preparation of the young football players.

A particularly interesting part of the visit was the meeting between the Cypriot coaches and the management and coaching team of  Levski Karlovo FC.

The guests from Cyprus shared their positive impressions of the excellent football facilities in Karlovo and expressed interest in the possibility of organising training camps and friendly matches between teams from Bulgaria and Cyprus in 2027.

Thus, a sports visit can become the beginning of a new international partnership.

And this is also the true spirit of European initiatives – bringing people together, sharing experience, discovering new opportunities and taking the next steps together.

Over the coming days, the Cypriot coaches will also visit **smaller towns and villages in Karlovo Municipality, where they will meet with children and young people and share their experience.
