For another consecutive year, the “Youth and Civil Initiatives in the Rose Valley” has sent a group of young people to its partners at the European Youth Center – Brnešt, Romania.
The Bulgarian group of 11 students from schools in Karlovo and Sopot, led by Mr. Emil Ivanov from the “General Vladimir Zaimov” Vocational High School – Sopot, took part in the project “Fake or Real Democracy” from 14 to 22 February 2026.
Together with 40 peers from Romania, Spain, and Portugal, the Bulgarian participants:
- learned to distinguish fake news from real news, and fake democracy from genuine democracy;
- became familiar with European institutions as well as local and national decision-making bodies in the partner countries;
- explored direct democracy, active youth citizenship, and participation in decision-making processes;
- enriched their cultural knowledge during special evenings dedicated to each partner country;
- enjoyed the snow, which was a special attraction not only for the participants from the Portuguese Azores and sunny Spain.
During the exchange, the group visited:
- The Parliament in Bucharest (the second largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon), where they learned more about Romania’s system of governance;
- the largest Youth Center in Bucharest, uniting 37 organizations working for young people in the Romanian capital;
- the Romanian capital itself, completing special group tasks to discover interesting places in the city center and learning about its history and culture in an interactive way;
- Pelesh Castle in Sinaia.
The project was implemented by young people under the Erasum+ programme, which supports educational mobility, intercultural dialogue, and the personal development of young people.
