Our colleagues from the Youth Information Center – Karlovo have once again given young people the opportunity to take part in a project that enhances their skills and knowledge about ecological balance.
For the period 26-31 July, eleven young people from Karlovo joined an eco-camp at Camping Mala in Clisura Dunării, located on the banks of the Danube River in Romania. The camp was organized as part of the “Cu Apele Curate” program.
After a series of team-building and introductory games, the youth:
- Discussed environmental issues in both Bulgaria and Romania with their Romanian peers;
- Shared culture and traditions during a joint intercultural evening, dancing under the stars at the eco-campsite;
- Tested the waters of the Danube River for various indicators – pH levels, phosphates, turbidity – and learned about the landscape and plant species in and around the water;
- Took a boat trip along the Danube, where they learned about endemic plant species and the region’s history;
- Participated in creative workshops, painting mandalas on pebbles collected from the dried-up riverbed at the campsite, while discussing global issues like drought and water scarcity;
- Made their own natural mosquito repellents and body deodorants using entirely eco-friendly materials such as coconut oil, starch, and essential oils;
- Watched educational films under the stars;
They engaged in real-life conversations and enjoyed the pure nature and refreshing weather.
