On September 2, Ivan Vazov – 2014 Community Cultural Center was accepted as a member of the Public Council to the Parliamentary Committee on Direct Citizen Participation and Interaction with Civil Society in the 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria.

For them, this is recognition of the path they have taken over the past few years, but above all, it is an opportunity to continue advocating for the role of community cultural centers as vibrant spaces for culture, knowledge, dialogue, and community.

A contemporary community cultural center is much more than a place for books and events. It is a space where people come together, exchange ideas, seek solutions, and build meaningful connections. It serves as a bridge between generations, between tradition and innovation, and between culture and civic life.

Over the past few years, they have consistently worked to make their community cultural center open and accessible to people and to the issues that matter to them — supporting children and families, strengthening the local community, improving access to knowledge and information, promoting digital literacy and volunteering, and encouraging cultural engagement and active citizenship.

This is precisely why community cultural centers have such an important role to play in society — as places for dialogue, creativity, education, and a sense of belonging. They see their participation in the Public Council as an opportunity to bring forward the perspective of a contemporary community cultural center — one that is close to people, deeply engaged with the local community, and convinced that civic participation begins where people come together, listen to one another, and have a meaningful conversation.
