This year, the Youth Centre – Karlovo marked the European Week of Sport with a special event – a friendly match titled “Girls and Boys Together”, with the message:
👉 Sport is for everyone – without stereotypes and limitations!
📍 Participants in the event included:
• Youth from YIC-Karlovo / Youth Information Centre – Karlovo
• Volunteers from Bulgarian Red Cross Youth – Sopot
• The junior team of FC “Vasil Levski” with coach Ivan Shahanski
• Young people from the Residential Youth Care Centre – Karlovo
🏆 Over 200 countries around the world have national women’s football teams that are FIFA members and compete in the World Cup.
❗Yet, girls still rarely choose sports like football, boxing, karate, or shooting, because they often hear these are “not for them.”
And what did the Bulgarian female Olympic medalists from Tokyo 2020 say?
– That there are no male or female sports – only talent, hard work, and passion! 🥇🥈🥉
– Women brought home medals in karate, boxing, wrestling, shooting, and more!
📢 To encourage more girls to get involved in sports, it’s important to:
✔ Break down stereotypes
✔ Have the support of parents, coaches, and teachers
✔ Organize inclusive events – open to everyone, without gender barriers
🙌 The event was organized under the project “Mission Possible” by the association “Youth and Civil Initiatives in the Rose Valley”, with the support of the Bulgarian Fund for Women under the project “Birds in BG”, co-funded by the European Union.
