{"id":849,"date":"2026-03-10T15:28:55","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T15:28:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alfbg.net\/?p=849"},"modified":"2026-03-11T15:30:38","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T15:30:38","slug":"women-and-girls-from-karlovo-at-the-womens-rights-protest-march-in-sofia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alfbg.net\/index.php\/2026\/03\/10\/women-and-girls-from-karlovo-at-the-womens-rights-protest-march-in-sofia\/","title":{"rendered":"Women and Girls from Karlovo at the Women\u2019s Rights Protest March in Sofia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, women and girls from Karlovo marked International Women\u2019s Day (March 8) with civic activism by joining the women\u2019s rights protest march in Sofia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The march was organized by the collective \u201cFeminist Mobilizations\u201d and the group \u201cLevFem\u201d under the slogan <strong>\u201cCare and Resistance\u201d<\/strong><strong> \u2014<\/strong> care and protection for women, and a struggle for recognition of their work, equal rights, and equal opportunities for participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A group of 15 women from the Women\u2019s Club \u201cRose Valley\u201d and girls from the Youth Information Centre \u2013 Karlovo stated their support for the <strong>#NotOneMore<\/strong> campaign by participating in the protest with the message: <strong>\u201cSpread love, not violence!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The messages of our group of women were for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>equal rights and opportunities for women;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>respect for women\u2019s rights;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prevention of all forms of violence against women (both online and offline);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>combating gender stereotypes imposed by the media and the patriarchal model in our society;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>recognition of the enormous amount of additional labor that women perform at home and in caring for relatives and loved ones, which remains completely unrecognized by our social system;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>support for women in disadvantaged situations and women from vulnerable communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By participating in the protest, we also set an example of how important civic activism is in the fight for and defense of human rights. What we have today in Bulgaria and Europe in terms of women\u2019s rights, freedom, peace, and democracy is the result of the long-standing struggle of millions of people around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The participation of the Karlovo group was made possible through the project <strong>\u201cMission Possible\u201d<\/strong>of the Youth Centre in Karlovo, with financial support from the<strong>Bulgarian Fund for Women<\/strong>under their project<strong>\u201cBirds in BG2,\u201d<\/strong>co-funded by the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
