The youth center in Karlovo conducted an external training in the city of Hisarya for 20 young people, which it trained in active youth citizenship and participation in decision-making processes. The training is part of the project “Local leaders today = national and European leaders tomorrow” and is implemented with the support of the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe. The aim of the project is to prepare future youth leaders to be informed, interested and concerned about their local communities, national and European interests.
Young people learned how to plan and implement youth initiatives for their localities, how elections are held and why it is important to participate in decision-making processes at local, national and European level. They got acquainted with the main institutions of the European Union and understood the difference between the Council of Europe and the European Union. The young people shared what they still want to improve for Karlovo, Sopot, Banya, Kalofer and the villages in Karlovo Municipality.
During the training, the youth acted out a local mayoral election, nominating three candidates who had to form parties, develop programs of governance and present them to voters, who then voted and democratically elected the mayor with the better campaign and presentation.
